Video Killed The Radio Star is a horror feature set in 1979 around the birth of the new age of music videos.
Pirate DJ Jim rejects the incoming trend but his protege Maddie is looking to the future. Despite their differing views on the future of music media they are close friends, brought together by a mutual tragedy that they rarely speak of but is always lingering in the darkness around them.
On NYE 1979 Maddie is making the step up to the mic but her debut turns into a horror show when Jim inadvertantly unleashes a demonic force upon the isolated radio station. And so Maddie and Jim must now do battle with the forces of darkness while also dealing with a series of revelations that changes their relationship and their very beings.
THE TEAM
The director Brad Watson and I have been developing projects for years but have until now failed to get past the many walls put up by our unpredictable industry. And so while this idea came from an outside source (thanks Ben and Kirsty at Dreamtown) we finally have the opportunity to show how explosive we can be when our unique abilities are brought together.
THE CAST
I was ecstatic when our cast was announced as I have in the past had the displeasure of seeing things that I wrote thrown at the nearest famous person whether it suited them or not. So seeing Luke Brandon Field and Harriet Cains cast in the roles was a pleasure that was only enhanced one I had heard them read out the many words I had written.
A lot of horror is forgiven it's poor acting as long as the scares are good. That is not what I want out of my films. True horror comes from caring about the characters and getting to know them and understand them. And good actors are essential to that process.
